Parking is changing

How motorists pay to park in Wycombe District Council-owned car parks hass changed.

From Saturday 25 February 2017 all car parks, except Wycombe Swan and Easton Street multi-storeys, changed to a pay and display system. We have modified the existing parking payment machines to operate a pay and display system and additional payment machines are being installed in busy car parks. Some locations now benefit from the introduction of card “wave and pay” technology.

The pay and display system will not be installed in Easton Street and Wycombe Swan car parks and you can continue to pay before you leave; entrance and exit barriers will also be installed in these two car parks. Motorists do not need to produce a ticket at the barrier to leave Easton Street and Wycombe Swan car parks.

Car parks affected by the change

All fee paying car parks which are run by Wycombe District Council, except Easton Street and Wycombe Swan, have changed to pay and display.

In car parks with a pay and display payment system, you need to choose how long you want to stay and pay for your ticket when you arrive in the car park. You need to display this ticket on your vehicle dashboard for the duration of your stay in the car park.

In Wycombe Swan and Easton Street multi-storey car parks in High Wycombe, there are no changes to the way you pay. You need to enter your registration number at the payment machine, which will then ask you to pay for the amount of time that you have been in the car park. As there will be barriers at the exit of these car parks, if you have paid or hold a permit, or previously registered your blue badge, then the barrier will automatically open to allow you to exit.

How you can pay to park from 25 February 2017

Due to the change in payment system and the introduction of barriers in some car parks, we no longer offer online payments using Flexi-park or pay after the event. Permit holders will not be affected by these changes, as they will still be valid under the new arrangements.

Blue badge holders

Blue badge holders are currently required to register their badges with parking services to obtain free parking. From 25 February, this will now only be needed if you use Easton Street and Wycombe Swan car parks in High Wycombe.

Reason for the change to pay and display

We have been left with no alternative other than to make changes to the payment system in some of our car parks, following the government’s decision to restrict its access to data held by the DVLA. This is in spite of positive conversations we have had directly with the DVLA about using ANPR in its car parks. While we have been led to believe that the government has for some time been working on a parking package which includes wider ANPR usage for the public sector, there is now no clear timescale in which this will be introduced.
