What to do in the event of a death
We understand that during this difficult time, notifying the council tax office of a death will take second place to the many other arrangements that have to be made.
However, as soon as possible, a relative, friend or solicitor of the deceased should inform the council tax office about the death of an occupant of a property.
You can do this in either of two ways:

Using the Tell Us Once service can help to reduce some of the strain when someone has passed away.
The Tell Us Once team will notify all participating government departments and organisations of the death. This includes council tax offices and many other departments, saving you numerous separate calls and letters.

We will need to know the name and address of the individual who has passed away, and the date of death. We will then ask you if we need any further information relating to your situation.
