Infectious diseases

Our Environmental Health team is responsible for investigating the spread of infectious diseases including food poisoning

There are 30 diseases that must be legally reported to us by doctors. These are known as "notifiable diseases" and include diseases such as:

  • food poisoning
  • measles
  • mumps
  • rubella (German measles)
  • whooping cough

We investigate all notifications to identify the cause of the incident and to prevent the spread of the disease. This may involve discussing the illness with the sufferer to work out how the infection was caught and where.
