Business rates recovery procedure
If you do not pay your business rates, we will need to start recovery procedures. If you are struggling to pay your rates, please do contact us as early as possible as we may be able to help before the recovery procedure begins.
Here's how the procedure works:
Will will send only one reminder during the year. We do not send reminders each time a payment is missed or is late. Once we send a reminder, if you don't pay or miss a further payment, you will lose the right to pay by instalments. You will get a Magistrates' Court summons for the balance of the year's charge.
If you don't pay the amount by the court date, we will apply to the Magistrates' Court for a Liability Order with costs. If you still don't pay or you don't abide by subsequent arrangement, the Liability Order will be passed to a bailiff and further costs added.
