Employment privacy notice

  1. As a Data Controller Buckinghamshire Council collects personal information and special categories of more sensitive personal information about employees, workers and contractors (including applicants) through the application and recruitment process and in the course of employment.
  2. Such processing is necessary to perform our contract with you and to enable us to comply with legal obligations. In some cases we may use your information to pursue legitimate interests of our own or those of third parties provided your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests.   
  3. Our policy is to destroy such personal data six months after the end of the recruitment process for unsuccessful applicants, and otherwise six years after employment has ended.
  4. We may share your personal data with the Council’s payroll provider to enable you to be paid correctly, the Council’s occupational health provider to ensure that we comply with our duties in relation to an individuals’ disabilities or to meet our obligations under health and safety law, and the Council’s private health for the necessary processing of a benefit for which an employee may be entitled. In addition, during your employment, personal data may be collected from a third party, including medical information from our occupational health provider, criminal records checks from the DBS, financial information from our payroll provider and estimates of pension benefits from our administering authority.
