High Wycombe progresses to next phase of Future High Streets Fund

High Street August 2017
High Wycombe has been named as one of an additional 50 towns that could benefit from the £1 billion Future High Streets Fund. They join 50 areas already shortlisted by the government to develop plans to reinvent their shopping areas. Wycombe is the only Bucks town to make it into the 100.

The news was especially welcomed by WDC’s Economic Development team who pulled together the successful bid as part of the council’s ongoing efforts to boost the town centre. WDC has a strong track record of being proactive in bringing empty units back into use (such as The Works and Mad Squirrel) and re-imagining underused community space (Lata Lata and Signatures).

High Wycombe, along with the other candidates, will progress to the second phase of the Future High Streets Fund. WDC will be allocated a delivery manager from MHCLG and will receive up to £150,000 to support the development of detailed project proposals that can be submitted for capital funding (the billion pound pot) although the council has been told that not all requests will be met.
