Takeaway lids to encourage recycling

Take away lids foil recycling message

If you're thinking of ordering a tasty chicken tikka masala or a vegetable chowmein from your local takeaway this Christmas, you might just get some recycling advice as a side dish.

Residents ordering from any one of 20 restaurants in Aylesbury and High Wycombe over the Christmas holidays may get their takeaway with a special lid designed by the Buckinghamshire Waste Partnership with one of two recycling messages.  One lid has the message "Buckinghamshire recycles foil trays. Simply rinse and place in your recycling bin", while the other says "Buckinghamshire recycles food leftovers, if there are any! Food waste is collected weekly." And if the takeaway lids are rinsed off, they can also be recycled.

Cllr Mike Smith, Chairman of Buckinghamshire Waste Partnership, said: "Over a quarter of the UK population order a takeaway once a fortnight and generate an enormous amount of waste in the process. Christmas is already a time when we create even more rubbish than usual, so we’re hoping these lids, with their handy tips on recycling foil trays and food leftovers, help residents to reduce their rubbish and put the right waste in the right place."

The following takeaways are taking part:

In High Wycombe

  • Osbourne Spice
  • Mandarin palace
  • Golden Palace Chinese
  • The Mowchak
  • Taste of India
