90 pubs to receive business rates relief

WDC offices
Some of the pubs in the Wycombe district are set to receive a £1,000 reduction in their business rates bill for 2017/18.

The Pubs Relief Scheme was announced by the Chancellor in the spring budget and gives local councils the funding and discretion to award £1,000 extra relief to independent pubs with a rateable value of less than £100,000. In the Wycombe district, 90 pubs will qualify for this additional rates relief.

Cllr David Watson, Wycombe District Council's Cabinet Member for Finance, commented: "We’re really pleased that the details of this scheme have been finalised and we can now send out revised bills to the 90 pubs that are eligible.

"We hope that the extra £1,000 off the bill does indeed bring these pubs, many of which are at the heart of their local community, some welcome relief."

The rates relief for pubs is one of a number of relief schemes available to businesses to help reduce their bill. The rateable value of a business is set by the Valuation Office Agency.
