Wycombe District Council supports the use of mentoring to help people develop and grow in their current job or to support them in their career development.
Mentoring forms part of the council’s approach to learning and development which includes coaching, training and apprenticeships.
Mentoring is when a more experienced colleague uses his or her knowledge and understanding of their work or workplace to support the development of a more junior member of staff.
Anyone who wants a more experienced colleague to lend his/her greater knowledge and understanding to support their development can benefit.
You might be an apprentice or trainee, studying for a professional qualification or someone who has demonstrated particular achievement or promise in your existing role. If you would like to be mentored the council can support you by providing an internal or external mentor.
Mentors can benefit by helping develop new talent, inspiring the leaders of the future and by strengthening their own coaching and leadership skills. If you would like to mentor other people we can provide training and support to help you to do this.
