Check out your energy use at High Wycombe library
18 August 2010
Local energy saving champions Transition Town High Wycombe will be launching a number of energy saving kits at High Wycombe library from 10.30am onwards on Saturday 21 August.
The five energy saving kits, which will be available to loan from the library free of charge, are aimed at local residents who want to find out more about how much energy they are using in their homes. The idea is that people will explore and monitor how much electricity their appliances use, in order to reduce energy waste. The kits will consist of an "Owl", a whole-home wireless electricity power monitor; a single appliance power meter; an easy to follow picture booklet that will demonstrate how the devices work; and a handy power sheet to record it all down on. The kit bags have been provided by local company SolaSave.
On the imminent launch of the new energy saving kits, Mark Brown, Chairman of Transition Town High Wycombe, commented: "The Transition Town High Wycombe team is proud to have inspired and worked on this exciting and new initiative. This project has united partners from our local councils, commercial and voluntary sectors, in delivering an essential new service. This is the future. We invite everybody to use the energy saving kits from the library - free of charge - and give us their comments on how we can improve the service. The first twenty borrowers will also get a free TV power-down gadget, courtesy of the Energy Saving Trust."
Chairman of the Wycombe Partnership, Cllr Lesley Clarke, added: "The Wycombe Partnership is delighted to support this project. By using one of these energy saving kits, we all have the opportunity to find out how much energy we could be saving around our homes. If each of us is able to save energy in our own homes, imagine the difference we could all make together."
The launch of the energy saving kits, alongside an exhibition in the library foyer, will mark the start of the county's Small Change, Big Difference fortnight, which encourages local people to play their part in reducing energy consumption. Following the launch of these energy saving kits in High Wycombe library, Buckinghamshire County Council will be introducing similar kits to its libraries across the Wycombe district.
