New same day recycling collections start this week

Improvements to kerbside recycling collections began this week across Wycombe district. For the majority of properties, food and garden waste (green wheeled bin) paper and cardboard (green box) and plastic bottles and cans (black box) will now be collected all on the same day. The items the council collects for recycling remains exactly the same, but there are now fewer recycling days for people to have to remember.

For some residents the new arrangements will mean collections will happen on a different day of the week but all homes have been given new recycling collection calendars giving full details of the new collection schedules including bank holiday arrangements. From this week, residents should refer to their new recycling calendar and guide.

Some residents may need to wait a little longer than normal between recycling collections while new collection routes settle down. Crews will collect any excess recycling (green and black boxes and green wheeled bins) on first due collection. Residents are encouraged to use their local recycling centres or Household Waste Recycling Centres if they are unable to wait between collections.

The new combined recycling is made possible with the introduction of 'split body' collection lorries which allow paper and cardboard (green box) and plastic bottles and cans (black box) to be collected at the same time on one round. The contents of green boxes and black boxes are now loaded into the same vehicle but kept divided and separate ready for recycling. The new streamlined service will reduce the number of trips made by vehicles keeping collection costs down and operating in a more environmentally friendly way.
