Betty Barratt
14 June 2010
Councillors and officers at Wycombe District Council were saddened to learn that Betty Barratt, an Honorary Alderman of Wycombe District Council, passed away on Sunday 13 June at Shelburne Lodge High Wycombe aged 80. Her daughter Estella and her son-in-law Andrew were with her.
Betty began her career in local politics, when she became an elected member of the former Wycombe Borough Council in 1971. She was elected to Wycombe District Council in 1973, where she represented the Marsh and Micklefield Ward. She served as Mayor to High Wycombe in 1984/85 and Chairman of Wycombe District Council in 1996/97. In September 1999, she was made an Honourary Burgess and in May 2000 she was appointed as an Honorary Alderman.
A well-known and respected figure within the community, Betty will be sadly missed by all those who worked with her at Wycombe District Council. Our thoughts are with her family at this time.
