Thumbs up for new play equipment at Barleyfields

26 July 2010

A unique, new play area experience featuring a large climbing net, group swing, slide, swings and a wheel chair accessible roundabout at Barleyfields in Wooburn Green will be officially opened this Friday 16 July.

Work on the play area started in February 2010 and was completed in April 2010. SMP Playgrounds were chosen to install the play area as they demonstrated imaginative ideas and creative use of the space.

Throughout the development process Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council consulted with residents in the local area and worked closely with Wycombe District Council, who tendered the project, to create a play area suitable for the 8 -13 age group.

The play area was funded by a £45,000 grant from the Department of Education, which allocated funding to a number of schemes in Buckinghamshire through Bucks County Council. Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council also funded some toddler swings in the new play area, as equipment for the under 8's was not covered by the grant.

The new play area was designed to encourage children to play independently outdoors, to face challenges and to take measured risks in a stimulating and fun environment.

Wycombe District Council worked together with Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council, SMP Playgrounds, Department of Education and Bucks County Council to make the development a success.
