Hughenden residents invited to see plans of new link road

10 March 2010

Hughenden residents are this week set to receive the Council's latest update on plans to develop the former Compair site, in pursuance of Hughenden Quarter renegeration proposals as set out in the Core Strategy.

The leaflet sets out the development proposal for a new link road through the former site for which a detailed planning application is to be submitted in late spring. Residents are invited to come and view the proposal at the High Wycombe Library and Council foyer where they will have the opportunity to talk with the design team and comment on the proposal.

The proposed new link road will comprise of a two-way single carriageway road from Bellfield Road to Hughenden Avenue; in addition the proposal includes:

  • Hughenden stream to be cleared and enhanced; opening it up to be seen and enjoyed.
  • A new park alongside the Hughenden stream
  • New seating and amenity areas
  • And new pedestrian and cycle routes

The Hughenden Quarter has already been identified as a key area of change in the Wycombe Development Framework's Core Strategy and residents have been consulted on the Council's vision for the area.

The benefits of this proposal are:

  • To ease congestion on the local highway network
  • Encourage greater use of public transport with the provision of new bus stops along the link road
  • Encourage sustainable travel choices with the introduction of safe and attractive pedestrian and cycle routes.
  • The new park will be a recreational resource for the local community and seating areas will also encourage people to dwell within the park creating a pleasant environment for all.
