Regional winner Eden beaten at the 2009 LABC National Building Excellence Awards
02 November 2009
The final of the 2009 LABC National Building Excellence Awards took place on Tuesday 20 October at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel in London. Awards were given in eleven categories that recognised the excellent building quality of projects in diverse sectors including volume housing developments, education, healthcare, commercial, sports and leisure.
These awards differ from others in the industry. They acknowledge the often unseen contribution that building control makes towards the built environment. By ensuring that projects comply with the Building Regulations, local authority building control provides safe, sustainable and accessible buildings across England and Wales. Local authority building control helps developers, designers and builders make decisions during the design and development process, working cooperatively with customers to avoid corrections during the construction phase.
Eden development reached the top six in England and Wales in two categories; Best Commercial Building (more than £1M) and Best Social/Affordable Housing Development. Although a winner in the categories at the Central Region Building Excellence Awards, it was unfortunately beaten at the national finals in both categories.
The collaboration between the development and construction team and Wycombe Building Control is an excellent example how Local Authority Building Control can work with industry to deliver effectively major developments.
