Get set for the digital switchover
20 March 2012
With less than three weeks to go until the start of the digital switchover on Wednesday 4 April, Digital UK are holding a number of roadshows providing advice and support on re-tuning your television.
If you are still watching analogue TV (five channels or fewer) on any of your sets, you need to convert them to digital or you will lose TV channels. Virtually any TV can be converted using a Freeview box, digital satellite service or digital cable.
Roadshows will take place in High Wycombe at the following dates in the Eden Shopping Centre:
- Wednesday 4 April
- Thursday 5 April
- Wednesday 18 April
- Thursday 19 April
The roadshows coincide with each of the two stages of switchover where you will need to re-tune your TV. The two stage process is explained below:
- At stage one (Wednesday 4 April), analogue BBC Two is switched off. BBC Freeview channels are then boosted in power and become available from local relay transmitters for the first time.
- At stage two (Wednesday 18 April), all remaining analogue services are switched off. All other Freeview channels increase in power and become available from relay transmitters.
Viewers with digital TVs or Freeview, Top Up TV or BT Vision boxes will need to retune their equipment at both stages of switchover.
Re-tuning advice is available on Digital UK's website below and from their advice line - 08456 50 50 50 which will be open from 6am to 10pm at both stages of switchover.
For eligible older (75 or over) or disabled viewers who may find the switch difficult, the BBC-run Switchover Help Scheme can provide everything you need, including easy to use equipment for £40, to switch one TV to digital. For further information on the Help Scheme visit their website below or call 0800 40 85 900 (textphone 0800 40 85 936).
