Does my employer have to carry out workstation assessments?

If you work at a desk with a computer, the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 requires your employer to "assess (and review) health and safety risks to persons exposed at VDU workstations and reduce risks so identified".

Looking at how a seat, desk, computer keyboard and monitor are placed can prevent problems such as eye strain, bad backs and RSI (pain caused by performing repetitive tasks such as typing).
