What is the difference between the Leader and the Chairman of the Council?

The Leader guides the political direction of the Council and appoints the Cabinet. He/she is appointed by full Council on the recommendation of the majority political group. From May 2011, the Leader will be appointed for a four year period.

More about the Cabinet

The Chairman is a civic and ceremonial, not a political, role. He/she is the first citizen of the Wycombe district, acts as host to visiting dignitaries, represents the Council and acts as an impartial chairman for Council meetings. The Chairman is elected annually by full Council and holds the office for one year.
