Avoid getting a Penalty Charge Notice

Do

  • Always display tickets, badges and permits clearly. A Parking Civil Enforcement Officer must be able to read the details.
  • Display the Blue Badge and Clock and in accordance with the Blue Badge Scheme Regulations.
  • Make sure your entire vehicle is parked within any marked bays.
  • Make sure you get back to your car before your ticket expires.
  • Carry a means to pay for your parking.
  • If a pay and display machine is not working, either use another machine in the same street or car park or park somewhere else.

Don't

  • Assume you can park somewhere because other people have.
  • Assume you can stop for a short time in a restricted area.
  • Assume you can park on bank holidays or Sundays unless the sign says it's alright to do so.
  • Park in a space reserved for a specific individual or group of road users unless entitled to do so.
  • Return to the same parking area within the time shown on the signs.
  • Assume leaving a note on your dashboard saying where you are and how long you'll be will exempt you from the rules.
  • Leave your vehicle to get change for a pay and display machine. It's your responsibility to make sure you have the means to pay for parking when you arrive.
  • Assume pay and display tickets are transferable. Tickets cannot be transferred between parking places, car parks, vehicles or drivers.

Blue Badge holders

Disabled symbol.Disabled drivers can park in any bay (other than reserved bays) free of charge providing their disabled badge and clock are clearly on display and any time limit restrictions are followed.
