Adopted Core Strategy

The Core Strategy was adopted on 7 July 2008 by the council and became the first Development Plan Document to be adopted as part of the Wycombe Development Framework.

The Core Strategy sets out the vision and spatial strategy for the district up to 2026. The overall strategy is :

  • A focus on developing previously developed land with High Wycombe acting as a regional hub and principal focus for development.
  • At High Wycombe, the emphasis for development is to be on urban renaissance and the re-use of previously developed land.
  • Development at Marlow and Princes Risborough is to be on a smaller scale and of a character appropriate to their size.
  • Elsewhere, the emphasis is to be on protecting the rural character of the district.

The Core Strategy underwent consultation through two key stages:

  • Issues and Options October 2004 to June 2005
  • Preferred Options September to November 2005

The Core Strategy was submitted to central government on 28 April 2006 and was subject to an Examination in Public, chaired by an independent Planning Inspector. This began on 27 November 2007 and lasted for 3 weeks.
