Demolition (buildings)

Our Building Control department controls the demolition of buildings to ensure that it is done in a safe manner, without any danger to the public. This is carried out under sections 80 and 81 of the Building Act 1984.

It is necessary to give us written notification in advance of any building or part of any building is taken down or demolished. This will enable us to consult with the appropriate organisations, including:

• Fire and Rescue Authority
• Highways Authority
• Thames Water Utilities
• Environment Agency
• Environmental Health Department
• Health and Safety Executive
