Lorna Cassidy - High Wycombe artist
Lorna Cassidy has been making prints of Wycombe district for over 50 years. She has an interest in local history and in recording historic buildings such as chair factories and mills. Often she chooses to record a view that will soon vanish - such as Glenister's furniture factory before it was demolished to make way for a supermarket in 1996. Other changes recorded in her work - such as to the High Street, High Wycombe - have been more gradual with her recording the street a number of times over many years.
Lorna trained at High Wycombe Art School (then on Easton Street) and at the London School of Printing. Her work is an important part of Wycombe Museum's collection for both its local history interest as well as its artistic merit. The Museum holds over 30 of Lorna's works of art.

Pann Mill Derelict, 1969-1971
This plate was first worked on in May 1969. Lorna Cassidy returned to the site in August 1971. She saw how much the plants had grown up around the recently derelict mill and reworked the plate.

Print taken from the copper plate:

Rose detail from Pann Mill. You can see how the copper plate is etched in reverse so that when a print is taken it comes out the right way round. Watch the video to find out more about this technique.

Pann Mill today
Much of the mill depicted by Lorna Cassidy was demolished in 1972. The High Wycombe Society, of which Lorna is an active member, campaigned to raise funds and in 2000, it was partially reconstructed and now grinds corn at open days in the summer.
