Further details

Times

The party room is booked for two hours, but you will have access to the room half an hour before the party.

Parties are available at the following times:

  • Saturday: 10.30 to 12.30 and 2.30 to 4.30
  • Sunday: 2.30 to 4.30
  • Weekdays: 3.30 to 5.30

Other times may be negotiated but will involve an extra cost after 5.30pm.

Number of children

The maximum total number of children for the birthday party programmes is 15 to allow enough room for the activities to take place. Please confirm with us five days before the party, how many children you are expecting.

Supervision

Responsibility for the children remains with you. Please ensure you have sufficient adult helpers - for smooth running of the party we advise one adult is present for every six children. It is advisable to collect emergency contact telephone numbers for the children whose parents don't stay at the party.

Cost

£90 minimum charge for ten children (extra children will be charged at £2.50 each).

Siblings

The cost of the birthday party is for all children who participate in the activities, younger or older siblings who do not participate are welcome free of charge but will need to be included in your overall numbers.

Catering

We are unable to provide catering for parties. There is a sink in the party room with drinking water and you will have access to the small staff kitchen in the main museum building if it is required. In fine weather we encourage parties to picnic in the gardens, although the party room will also be available, once the activities are packed away. Please note you will need to provide plates / cups or lunch boxes for the party.

Party prizes

We provide stickers as rewards for the party games but you are welcome to provide your own prizes in addition to this if you wish.

Candles

Unfortunately as we have very sensitive smoke alarms we cannot have naked flames inside the Museum building. However you are welcome to take the cake outside in to the courtyard for the blowing out of the candles. Don't forget matches!

Music

We provide a CD player in the party room for you to bring along your own choice of music.

Toilets

There are two toilets. One situated off the furniture gallery, the second is situated outside the main museum building, along the path that runs behind the Museum. Children must be supervised when using the toilets.

Party bags

We have a selection of small gifts and museum souvenirs available in the Museum shop. If you would like to select some items to your desired price then we can offer a ten per cent discount on the order. Let us know at least ten days before your party so that we can have the bags ready for you on the day.

Invitations and thank you cards

These are attached in PDF format for you to print off as you wish.

Parking

We have a small car park at the rear of the Museum.

We will reserve you one space in the car park but can't guarantee what other spaces will be available on the day.
