Higginson Park

Higginson Park was awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award again in 2007. The award scheme recognises excellence in park management.
The park is the principal open space in Marlow. It is a classic example of a traditional urban park. It is located on the High Street and yet it also benefits from access to open countryside and a superb location on the River Thames.
Floral display at Higginson Park. The park is 9.5 hectares (approx. 23 acres) in area and has been in existence as a public park since 1926, although as a garden it dates back to 1758. There are 1,000,000 visits to the park every year.
The park has a large children's playground, indoor and outdoor catering and public toilets. There are many fine trees and large expanses of lawn with formal flowerbeds. A putting green is open throughout the summer holiday period which also has a brick in grass maze, created by Adrian Fisher to mark the Millennium.
Duck swimming in the stream The frontage on to the River Thames has mooring for pleasure craft and boating for hire, as well as river cruises to Windsor and Henley.
The Thames trail, with many millions of people living within a short distance of the river, is possibly the most well trodden path in Britain. It passes along the river path in the park.
There is an area of wetland on the western fringe of the park, protected for wildlife, which includes water voles, kingfishers and a variety of swans, ducks and other waterfowl.
Also on the western side of the park there is a cricket pitch run by Marlow Park Cricket Club and plenty of space for larger events, such as circus tents and fairs.
Large tree in Higginson Park, The Marlow Town Regatta and Festival takes place every June, accompanied by a large fair. A French Market, Spring Regatta, Raft Race, church parades, the Marlow half-marathon and other fun runs and numerous fetes are held throughout the year.
A statue to Sir Steve Redgrave, the five gold medal winning Olympic rowing hero, stands proudly looking out to the river. It is in front of Court Garden House which is available for conference bookings.
The Leisure Centre in the park has a swimming pool, gym, tennis facilities and more. The Shelley Theatre and Marlow Bowls Club are also within the complex.
Car parking is available at Pound Lane, a turning off the High Street at the main gates to the park. Buses and trains run to the town centre from High Wycombe, Maidenhead and Reading. The railway station is a level five-minute walk away.
Dog walkers are reminded that we provide red bins for the disposal of dog faeces. Cooperation is greatly appreciated and helps to keep our parks clean and safe for all.
Local councillors have responded to calls from skateboarders in Marlow by approving the construction of a skatepark in Higginson Park. Answers to the most frequently asked questions about the development from a recent consultation exercise are available to download below.
