Family history

Buckinghamshire County Council provides a range of services to help those researching family and local history. These services are based in the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies in Aylesbury. Archives

The archives are the records of local administration in Bucks. This includes:

  • County Council records
  • District Council records
  • Local courts of quarter and petty sessions records
  • Church of England in Bucks records including parish registers and about 35,000 wills
  • Estate records from many of the landed estates of Bucks including: Aubrey-Fletcher, Hampden, Carrington and Fremantle families
  • Records of solicitors who acted as land agents
  • Deeds of land transfers
  • Parish tithe and inclosure maps
  • Old series Ordnance Survey maps

Local studies

The local studies library is home to the widest range of local history books in the county. Copies of many titles are available for loan using a Buckinghamshire Library membership card. More about libraries
