Landlord accreditation scheme
The Landlord Accreditation Scheme is a voluntary code of standards promoting the good management and physical condition of privately rented accommodation. It has been designed to increase the number of decent, good quality and well-managed private rented homes. We launched the scheme in April 2007; the scheme reflects the changes brought about by the Housing Act 2004.
We recognise the role that landlords in the private sector have in providing accommodation for a diverse range of tenants. In common with other councils we are seeking to work with residential landlords and give them an involvement in the decisions that affect them. This will be achieved by:
- Giving landlords information that helps them manage their properties better.
- Holding regular meetings with landlords, where they are able to discuss relevant housing matters with local authority officers.
- Giving help and advice on the standards expected.
- Setting up a voluntary accreditation scheme that recognises and rewards Landlords who manage and maintain their properties to a good standard.
Landlords who join this voluntary scheme and agree to abide by the standards will be accredited.
There are currently 134 properties accredited under the scheme.
