Hazardous waste
Waste is hazardous when it has properties that might make it harmful to human health or the environment.
Clinical waste collection
We provide a free of charge collection of clinical waste from domestic properties. A chargeable service for clinical waste can be arranged from residential and nursing homes.
For domestic collections of clinical waste we require a referral from your district nurse or GP on behalf of the NHS Bucks Primary Care Trust. The PCT will carry out an assessment and they will make arrangements for your clinical waste to be collected.
If you require a sharps collection, please contact us.
What types of domestic waste are hazardous?
Domestic wastes that may be hazardous include:
- asbestos
- pesticides
- fluorescent tubes
- oils
- some paints
- some household and car batteries
- electrical equipment like TVs, fridges and freezers
- energy saving light bulbs (also known as CFLs)
How to dispose of hazardous waste
Domestic hazardous waste should not be put into your household bins. Most of it can be taken to your local household waste and recycling centre.
See our waste and recycling directory for a list of how and where to dispose of most types of waste.
