Food poisoning

We investigate all cases of food poisoning in the Wycombe district following notification by GPs or receipt of results from any specimens taken. The aim of the investigation is to prevent any possible spread of infection in the community and where possible to trace the source of the illness.

Details are collected on all cases of illness that could be due to the consumption of food. This will tell us if any food premises are implicated as a probable source of infection. Control measures can be carried out as necessary. If a full investigation is needed, it is carried out by us and the Thames Valley Health Protection Unit.

If you think you may have food poisoning, please contact your GP for advice and request to submit a specimen for analysis.
