Animal welfare

Animal welfare legislation in the Wycombe district is enforced jointly by us and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), in association with other government bodies and independent organisations, such as the RSPCA.

We are the authority responsible for issuing animal licences within the district to the following premises:

  • Boarding dog kennels and catteries
  • Pet shops selling animals
  • Dog breeders breeding five or more litters in a year
  • Riding schools
  • Keepers of dangerous wild animals

More about animal licences.

We respond to reports and concerns from the public about stray and lost dogs, and our dog wardens undertake proactive patrols. More about dog wardens.
