Parish councils
Parish councils have powers to undertake a wide range of functions that impact on the local community. Work varies between councils, but typically they cover areas like public halls, allotments and playing fields.
Parish councils also provide a voice for local residents, enabling communities to comment on local issues, for example planning applications.
A clerk is employed by each parish council to undertake the administration and financial work.
Code of conduct for parish councillors
We have adopted a code of conduct for our district and parish councillors. Parish councils can adapt their own code of conduct based on this. Please contact the relevant parish council for more information.
Read the code of conduct in part 5 of our Council constitution.
Our Standards Committee is responsible for promoting and maintaining standards of conduct by our councillors. More about the Standards Committee.
