Voting
To vote in elections you must:
- be at least 18 years old
- be registered to vote in the area of the election
- be either a British, Irish, EU or British Commonwealth citizen
Please note, EU citizens cannot vote in British Parliamentary elections.
Countries in the EU are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or Sweden.
You cannot vote in the UK if you are:
- A foreign national
- Serving a prison sentence
- Under the age of 18

Electoral fraud, including wrongly applying to register or misuse of the postal vote system is now a criminal offence and is taken very seriously by local authorities and police. If you suspect or are aware of anyone who is falsely registered, or abusing the postal voting system, please inform us immediately.
