Data protection

The Data Protection Act allows you to find out what information about you is held on computer and in some paper records. This is called the right of subject access and includes facts and opinions expressed about you. More about data protection.

Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives a general right of access to recorded information held by public authorities. Any person who makes a request to a public authority for information must be informed whether the public authority holds that information, and subject to any exemptions, be supplied with that information.
