Access to council services
Wycombe District Council is committed to ensuring that the services we provide are as accessible to everyone as possible. As part of this commitment, the following provisions have been made within the Customer Service Centre to assist any customers with a disability:
- Fully automatic entrance doors
- All Wycombe District Council notices in a minimum size twelve sans serif font
- Clear directional signage with Braille translations alongside
- Two unisex wheelchair accessible toilets
- A mixture of chairs, some fixed and some movable, some with arms and some without
- Portable hearing induction loops for use within the interview rooms or booth areas
- Staff who have attended Disability Awareness and /or Deaf Awareness training event
- Some staff in the Customer Service Centre are able to sign using British Sign Language and are usually available during office hours for general enquiries. Independent interpreters will need to be booked in advance by council staff for specific queries involving specialist officers
- Large speaking screen for both visual and audible notification of information
- Wheelchair accessible ticket machine and a mini com for deaf customers
In addition to these features specific to the Customer Service Centre, the Council also offers the following:
- All documents can be made available in large print upon request
- Assistance dogs are welcomed throughout the Council building
- Type Talk is available throughout the entire Council, to use TextDirect dial 18001 followed by the full number you wish to call.
- Spoken language interpretation via telephone (provided by EITI) covering the following languages: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croat, Somali, Korean, Spanish, Tamil, Kurdish (Kurmanji and Sorani), Tigrinya, Farsi/Dara, French, German, Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Urdu, Greek, Punjabi, Vietnamese.
There are also two council officers dedicated to disability issues - an Access Officer and a Community Development Officer.
