Sustainable Community Strategy 2009-2026
The Sustainable Community Strategy (previously called a Community Plan) outlines an ambitious and exciting future for the Wycombe district to 2026. It will ensure that the district, with its beautiful rural communities and towns such as Marlow and Princes Risborough, continues to develop as a thriving sub-regional centre and achieves its vision for 2026 of being economically strong and the place to live work and visit.
A key difference between this strategy and our previous Community Plan published in 2005 is that it is the result of a joint review with the other districts in Bucks and the County Council. This joint work has resulted in a family of Sustainable Community Strategies for Bucks. The full family of plans can be viewed on the Bucks Strategic Partnership (BSP) website (opens in new window).
The Sustainable Community Strategy is the over-arching, long-term plan for Wycombe district. It is not a detailed action plan, but a framework to help partner organisations take collective responsibility, work together and make the best use of resources to deliver the outcomes set out here. Delivering the vision to 2026 will require determined action from a range of public, private and voluntary sector bodies working in partnership at neighbourhood, district and county level.
This work will be overseen by the Wycombe Partnership, the local strategic partnership for Wycombe district, who draw together the work of all the key public sector, business and voluntary partners in the area to deliver the agreed priorities for the district. The Wycombe Partnership is responsible for directing resources and coordinating the work of partners to deliver improved outcomes for residents.
The Sustainable Community Strategy does not try to address all of the concerns of local people nor every aspect of the work undertaken by the various partners. It focuses on the highest priorities where partnership working can have the greatest positive impact. By working to these common priorities, and by sharing ideas, resources and solutions, we stand a greater chance of meeting local needs and aspirations and making a real difference.
The strategy is structured around five common themes which reflect the views and needs if residents in communities across Bucks, they are:
- Thriving economy
- Sustainable environment
- Safe commmunities
- Health and wellbeing
- Cohesive and strong communities
The five themes link and overlap, therefore taking action in relation to one theme will often have a positive effect on another. For example, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour (safer communities) makes the area safer and more attractive for business to invest in (thriving economy). There are also three cross-cutting themes which are central to the Sustainable Communitiy Strategy. These are:
- Responding to demographic change
- Addressing inequalities
- Personal responsibility
