Bike security

About 50% of people do not lock their bike correctly.

  • Use a good quality hardened steel u-type lock
  • Avoid cheap chain and cable locks as they can be cut easily
  • Park your bike in a well lit, public area
  • When not in use, always keep your bike locked whether it's outside or in a shed or garage
  • Always lock the door to the building where your bike is stored
  • Use an ultraviolet pen to mark your postcode on the frame; if it does get stolen and recovered, it will be returned to you.
  • Keep a note of the name, model and serial number, and if possible a photograph, in case you need to pass the details to the police.
  • You can now register your bike online with Immobilise, the UK National Property Register and Recovery Service, which helps identify ownership of stolen items and lost property. Visit the website using the link below.
