Community facilities strategy
2009 strategy
Our Community Facilities Strategy is a clear plan for developing community facilities in the future, as well as providing the evidence for requesting Section 106 contributions from developers.
The strategy provides information about the current levels of provision of community facilities such as village halls, meeting halls and community centres. It also identifies where any deficiencies exist and directs future work towards meeting shortfalls in specific geographic areas.

2011 strategy update
An update to the strategy has been done which reflects recent changes in provision and provides a more in depth analysis of the level of provision both currently available and recommended. The recommendations about levels of provision from the 2009 Strategy still apply, but the main update areas are
- New data about facilities where previously it was not known whether they were available for hire or not;
- Splitting out of church halls from the churches where there is a separate hall specifically for community use. These church halls have now been classified as 'dedicated community facilities';
- Analysis of deficiency areas in terms of the number of facilities available within the relevant catchment based on 1 per 4,000 population;
- Analysis of deficiency based upon the size of the available facilities using the 575sq.m recommendation for a community building or 0.14 sq.m per person;
- Revision to the areas designated as being urban or rural to bring the strategy in line with the Planning Service's Annual Monitoring Report.
- Revised ward profiles and maps
- Revised priority areas
- List of proposed projects for works needed to dedicated community facilities within the priority areas.
Following approval by Cabinet, the update document is now available to download below.
