Door supervisors must register with the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is against the law to work as door supervisor without an SIA licence.
A door supervisor is defined as "any person who is primarily concerned with controlling access to the premises, or deciding on the suitability of customers to be allowed on the premises, or maintaining good order and public safety on the premises". This can include contracted security or management.

The SIA will only grant licences to people who have the right skills and training to do the job and who can pass a criminal background check.
