Business rates

Businesses and other organisations that occupy non-domestic premises pay business rates. The payments help fund local services provided by councils and other authorities such as the police and the fire and rescue service.

These pages explain how to register for business rates, how business rates are calculated, how to pay them and what help is available if you are struggling to pay.

Business rates retention

The Department for Communities and Local Government have produced a plain English guide to the proposals for business rates retention. The guide provides information on the Government's proposals in regard to business rates retention and how the changes will affect various groups such as the public / ratepayers, and local council's. The document is available to download at the bottom of this page.
